El Salvador

Country Overview

El Salvador is the smallest country in all the Americas, but that hardly seems possible after one hikes the jungle trail leading straight up the steep black lava trail to the cone of 6,183 ft. Izalco Volcano. From there it looks as if Massachusetts-sized El Salvador soars straight up into the sky.

World class deep sea fishing is popular off the Pacific black sand beaches located less than an hour's drive from capital San Salvador, and several popular beach resorts now line the Costa del Sol. Both the fishing and resorts are very convenient for visitor's to the capital.

The country also boasts over 1,500 archaeological sites including the unique Joya de Cerén ruins buried for centuries under a mantle of volcanic ash.

Nightlife can be surprisingly lively in the capital which now boasts several new luxury hotels.
